So what now? …but with cake!

May 16th, 2012

As my BA is coming to an end (and I got a gap year) I am beginning to wonder “what now with my life? ” I really do want to continue and do my cand.it. degree in Digital Design … but … I am kinda really sick of studying constantly and I have no motivation to do paper lately… so an old idea and possibility has begun rearing it delicious sweet sugary head - maybe I should try pastry … I have had a dream about doing pastry for a living for quite a lot of years now and it would be a good break from uni but I am very specific about what I what to do - because I am not interested in being a baker… or bread. I am one for the sweet things and delicate and pretty things…

On to the hopefully more delicious parts of this post! Two cakes I made recently!

Both cakes are wheat & gluten-free but adapted from good old recipes  from some of my many many books… well actually from my first cookbook!

March Madness!

March 21st, 2012

So March has come and nearly gone without me posting anything - it surely wasn’t intended to be this way … and I have been wanting to update this blog. My life this last month has pretty much been March Madness with getting the flat ready for boyfriend’s birthday, then boyfriend’s birthday and I’ve begun my internship at the museum of industry very late in February.

Name a drink!

February 27th, 2012

So today I set the task for myself to make a cupcake out of one of my favourite drinks! The always classy White Russian. I love the combination of vodka and caffe latte (I know it’s not exactly the correct amounts … but two things I love in ONE drink. yum!)

I have done this before - making a macaron - it was rather divine…

So for the cupcake I concocted I have made a basic vanilla cupcake with white chocolate and some cream (to boost the milky-ness), made a vodka syrup ( I promise to find a recipe for it!) and made a coffee buttercream with Tia Maria and coffee.

So - yeah catching up?

February 23rd, 2012

There’s a lot of ways which you just know it’s time to do something, it can be anything really, for me one those is when I start baking cause I’m bored I know I should just update the blog instead! … or better - do some studying but I kinda stopped doing that this semester - which is awful I know… and I have a lot of stuff to read before my internship starts next week!

First a special shout out to Fanney … who sent me the cutest and most wonderful Valentine’s card ever!

And now  cut so only those of you who want to read my rambling have to!

The part of February

February 13th, 2012

This week I am ever so lucky to have the week off and be on my Winter holiday! I love Winter holidays more than anything else - mostly because I don’t like Winter mixed with working much and I usually can convince to go somewhere warm with me. I tried to convince my younger brother and a couple of others to go to Alicante with me just to get some sun and some nice warmth but no luck. So I will be home working - at my own pace - catching up with everything and everybody.

I hope to get the few pictures I got in Berlin sorted and possibly some of them up here. Boyfriend and I aren’t much of picture taking people - especially when I’ve forgotten my camera AND BOTH of our passports… sigh. More about Berlin will be this week cause I had a great trip (except when my MacBook crashed and took the power supply with it) …

Week Four

February 1st, 2012

After having been sick all of last week, first it was womenly monthly things … and then of all things my arthritis started a rather vicious attack on my legs. If there is one thing I have never appreciated is rather vicious attacks on my legs - shoulders, chest, arms, hands, back even neck I can all handle! - but my legs it’s simply the worst thing and it leaves you so helpless.I didn’t start this blog to have a place to complain about my being ill and I don’t generally talk about being ill anymore both because it gives my lovely BF the heebie jeebies and it could easily give somebody else out there the heebie jeebies but also because I have more going on in my life then being ill and like every other (trust me on this!) I am not my disease/ disability and I never want to be. So after being ms. Gimpy and Ms. No I can’t put any weight on my ankles for about 4 days, sitting in bed staring or having been helped out on the couch and sitting and staring there, I haven’t done much on my exam paper that’s due in a week! Even if I have done parts of it already and have found some of the literature we have to find in connection with this paper I have begun to doubt my ability to finish the paper - especially after having all of last week - before the deadline.

So this week while it should be dedicated to just doing my paper I’m constantly distracted by either my bad work ethic, come on I am updating this blog instead of writing about cultural heritage and digital communication, or BF wanting something or something as simple as I still have a THOUSAND classes a day!

In other uni/ museology news I have finally secured an internship! I will be interning in March, April and May at Danish museum for Industry in Horsens where I will be working with development on an app for the museum and user surveys. If I get that done quickly I am also part of putting together a new exhibition on robots together and make something interactive for children about the exhibition.  So I am looking forward to seeing how that will all be. I am hoping that I will be able to stay awake and work a 37-hour week because the projects they have lined up for me all sound super exciting!

For something not uni related - my wonderful boyfriend bought me flowers a couple of weeks ago when I was super stressed and he was out of town. So when he came home he brought me a bouquet of purple tulips - the prettiest like ever! Me being me I put them in the purple vase I have - which is super groovy actually. Also I decided to take a bunch of photos of them just before I threw them out cause sadly flowers don’t last forever but I love the photos I got - and I will definitely try to make something of them - hopefully soon!

Photodump #1

January 17th, 2012

So since I started thinking about this blog I have been trying to get life back into my lovely old Nikon D40 … and then started taking lots and lots of photos of the food I eat and prepare. I have gotten quite a catalogue of photos already and I thought I’d post some of them even if they’re not part of an entire post just about what I’ve been making. I’ve also marked this photodump #1 because I suspect there will be more - just of everyday life if not of plenty of food!

Oooey gooey chocolate

January 11th, 2012

Hi!

I’m in the middle of trying to finish my museology paper before Thursday! I admit it is a bit of a long shot but I am trying and slowly failing but enough about that - tonight we had a lovely dinner and

A quick little post with what’s for dinner and a recipe! or maybe even two … oh excitement!

Tonight for dinner I wanted something nice wintery filling but still really tasty! So where does one go to find this …. in her almost empty fridge of course! (and … overfilled freezer)

What I found was half a celeriac or celery root, some onions, fennel, garlic, spice mixes from our summer holiday on Öland, Sweden and we still have some frozen duck breasts left over from the sales around christmas when I decided to buy what seems like a year’s supply of duck!

So all we needed carrots … and lucky us we have a discount store and a small supermarket just next door! (along with an absolutely marvelous bakery with a drive-in!)

This is what our dinner ended up looking like!

Do you want to make this?

Boyfriend and I are natural cake fiends - we will eat anything cake and really appreciate the fine art of sugar-fat-flour creations! So we really wanted cake tonight but didn’t really have the patience for a big cake project - so I adapted a recipe from Mette Blonsterberg’s book for chocolate fondant with bleeding heart - just so I could make it bleed less and be more cake-y and less dessert! And let it be totally no fuss!

Or how about this?

Leftovers from Christmas

January 8th, 2012

So it’s finally time for me to try and update this new blog … I know I am really bad at it but I am just enjoying the short almost IM-like Twitter but I also really wanted a place to have longer format I can use to communicate and just to post random things and hopefully also a lot of my trying to get through wheat-free and red meat free cooking.

I thought this would be a good time for updating  now that I have wonderful Christmas presents to show and I kinda went all out on shopping (will be in a later update as in when I get photos (meaning I have to convince BF to take pictures of me with different outfits)) lately - which I know is extremely bad timing … I should wait until the January sales really kick in… but I have used it for a bit of cheering up while I do my Museology paper on cultural heritage and the product/ project “1001 stories about Denmark“. The high from turning in my BA thesis just isn’t as everlasting as I hoped it would be… even if I can say that I have rarely felt such relief as when I finally turned that paper in!
